Meet the Artists: Miaz Brothers

1 March 2018

The Italian duo, Roberto and Renato Miaz, aka the Miaz Brothers, are coming back to London for their third exhibition, Anonymous, with Lazinc. So, before the show, we thought it was time to get to know the brothers a bit better…

Both classically trained, the Miaz Brothers honed their unique style of painting through several years of experimentation and travel. The artists favoured presenting their artworks in unconventional spaces such as nightclubs and corporate buildings, these locations meant the viewers would have more of a spontaneous reaction to the pieces. However, being an artist can at times be challenging, we asked the Miaz Brothers if they’d hit any bumps along the road…

“Lots of course. Money, faith, personal life sacrifices. But as brothers it was a bit easier to overcome difficulties. That is why we strongly believe in brotherhood in general.”

In 2011, the Miaz Brothers won the prestigious 5th Arte Laguna Awards Painting section in Venezia and in 2010, the Museum of Contemporary Art International Biennial Prize. They have now shown in galleries and museums around the world, but of course, we’d like to hope that Lazinc is their favourite! Where did they feel most inspired though?

“Actually, everywhere we felt authenticity, energy, hope.”

With Anonymous being the third exhibition the artists have had with Lazinc, we hope we are on that list. The Miaz Brothers’ first exhibition with Lazinc was in 2014; Dematerialized: A New Contemporary Vision. The show was the artist’s London debut and was so popular the artists came back the following year for their second show; Antimatter Series: A Boundless Vision. Although the subjects are different in each exhibition, looking back at them has left us inspired, so we asked the brothers what inspired them to become artists and what advise could they give others?

“It’s a long process, that combines creativity, passion, sacrifice, vision and a sort of wide brotherly love. ” “Try to become strong, brave in your choices and be true. It’s the only way you can help yourself and others.”

After speaking to the Miaz Brothers we’ve been left thoroughly jealous that not only is their work spectacular, but their words are wise.

Anonymous will be opening to the public on the Friday 16 March 2018 and we cannot wait to share more with you. If you would like to attend the opening reception on Thursday 15 March 2018, please click here.
